Hey guys, I just finished a new map. It's pretty simple, but should make for some good small games. Screen shots and d/l link below.

plays nice...good frames and decent flow... a couple of things i noticed..

a few of the corridors dead end.. i assume you are putting something at the ends...

map default game is set to LMS...so launching from desktop gives you that.. (no biggie)..nothing else major to report..i'd mostly work on flow issues..

Didn't know about that default gametype... I thought it looked at the "DM" part in the name and defaulted to DM.

What dead ends? You do realize the circular structures are teleporters right? Otherwise there's the LG area, which is a purposeful dead end (though you can drop into that spot from above).

yeah..lg area is main one..and i thought it could use one more hallway on second level...(90 degrees from ends)..but not a big deal... i like the teleporters..

here is look at LMS settings..

Ehhh, I don't remember that default gametype setting in UT99. Unless I just forgot about it. Oh well, something to remember for the future then. I don't think I'll be making any changes to CliffsideTemple... I've already released it. This was more of a practice map anyway. I wanted to get the hang of it again before I finished DM-Rivendell and an ice-based map which the modeling for is nearly complete. CliffsideTemple took me a week to make, total.

Well I saw this thread so i grabbed the map and took it for a tiny spin.
I gotta say, i'm impressed. The level design itself is pretty basic, but the textures and the lighting, is really something to write home about. I was particularily impressed with the room directly above the LG. With the ball, and shadows being cast all around. I looked like faked shadows.. but still really good anyway. And the metallatic reflective bars were very cool too. Lastly, I liked how the water lead aound the temple and out. It was a nice little effect that i appreciated.
I've never gotten into level design myself, but if this took you a week, it sounds pretty easy eh? or maybe you're just a pro at it ;)
Either way, keep up the good work! Psyched to see what else you come up with.

Yes, the lighting was faked. I used lightmaps for everything.

Most maps are created using UnrealEd and the UnrealEd lighting... however I did the modeling and lighting in 3D Max, then imported it all. It's a different way of level design, but it's how a lot of the Epic maps were built. That's why they look so good.

The reason it only took me a week was because it was a simple design, as you pointed out RED. The only reason it looks as nice as it does is because of the lighting and specular texture effects. It's the cheap and easy way to make a good looking map. ;)

Played this map again a few minutes ago....it really is a great map for 4-6 players...things get pretty messy with more that 6. I can't wait for your next creation either... :)

Sounds like a good idea. Starting on it now. It should go pretty fast. I'll just use my old layout, change a few things and make it look a lot better.

Hah, I forgot all about my DM-Kinetica remake. I had the central room all done and then 3D max crashed and I lost a few hours of work. I got pissed and haven't touched it since.

I'll get around to it again. :)
