I have to say I've had a LOT of fun on the HTM TAM it to HELL server over the last couple of days. It's good to see the old gang again and to play in the company of people who, for the most part, are playing for fun.

About the spam - I've come to realize that one of the problems with me sticking in smaller servers is that my spam skills have all but died. I'm pretty useless without the shock rifle or LG anymore.

As such, it's good practice to re-learn the rockets (in particular). My spam game, and my game as a whole has improved as a result of playing on a larger server.

I also think that a larger server like that may be more conducive to more traffic as lots of people stand a better chance 8v8 as opposed to 4v4.

The bottom line is that I like the server player count. I also like that current zound setup - it's perfect. I always liked the fun that zounds provide (I used to have them on my server), I just didn't like them being spammed or played mid-game when they caused my machine to stutter. The current config seems to have eliminated my biggest gripes.

This has to be my favorite game type. We got into vCTF and it was great for a couple months. But I'm really hooked on TAM. Only downside is I have found it much harder to play DM now. Just not racking up the kills fast enough I guess.

S.J., If you want a couple Seinfeld Zounds on this server send me the wavs. I am putting together a new zound pack and will be happy to include a couple for you.

I was going to do this a couple weekends ago, but have only received 5 wavs from our current members. So if you HTM guys want any new zounds please send them to me this week. :)

If only TAM supported the "enhanced netcode" that is so common among UTcomp 1v1 servers. I like TAM... I just don't like having to lead my shots. :?

The only weapon I notice as being laggy in TAM or any non-netcode game is the flak primary.

I don't notice leading my LG or shox.

That being said, I try and stay on servers with a <50 ping. When I get up in the 60's and 70's, I can feel the lag on my hitscan.

I love TAM too...with two exceptions. One is not really TAM, but me. If I join a server it seems to take half a game to warm up, in the meantime I tend to stay alive about 10-20 seconds..lol. I really need a little DM or something to warm me up before I dive in. The second..is that damn glitch I get every now and then that "freezes" my weapons..they are unclocked..but I can't fire or change weapons. The only remedy is to throw my current weapon and then I will get my "best weapon" and it will work again. This really sucks when a guy is on me and I can't fire back..can't even shield.

My biggest problem with TAM is something to do fundamentally with the gametype: campers :evil:.

Sometimes, I get frustrated (hard for you to imagine I'm sure - lol) that when I'm done getting raped by 4 enemies, I spec my teammates only to find them camping a lift (like in Goliath) or exploiting some map bug by standing on the roof (like in Pipeworks). Help your team ffs!!!.

I've never had the no weapon bug happen to me - although I've seen it lots before.

I have the no weapon prob quite often.I'm love TAM,myself,but then again,I'm a big LMS fan,also.Can never seem to find the weapons fast enough in DM.

yeah i didnt even know about that game type at all untill i started playing again, just joined whatever game HTM was in. Pretty damn cool though. yeah spam skills, hah, need to buff up in that department. :P my old video card melted so im on a lesser poop dinkle card :( low res. hopefully after christmas it'll be all "hell yeah" and "rainbow sprinkles" n junk.

We're (SBD) looking into getting our own server...finally. I think we've decided on a Ribserver in Dallas. That best fits our widely dispersed membership.

Look for it to run TAM in addition to other gametypes (IGCTF for one).

So now this begs the question about admining our new server.

I have extensive experience admining a local UT server - but very limited experience with admining a hosted UT server.

I assume I will have to stop the server with their serverdoc, upload the modified .ini files, and restart?

Also, Frogger was asking about ATTC problems last night (well, night for us in the western hemisphere). I have't noticed any lag per se. But, last night on two separate occations my gun fired and recoiled - but nothing shot out. I don't know if this has anything to do with ATTC or not.

Also - we're looking at possibly adding UADMIN (or something like it) to rotate gametypes. I guess I need some advice for a couple of reasons:

- I don't know if UADMIN is the mest mutator for this

- Would it be better to just have votable gametyps?

- I worry that one server with different gametypes will confuse other playters and ultimately reduce traffic

Since you guys have a lot more experience hostnig than I, I really respect and appreciate your input.

Yes...you will need to stop the server before you can overwrite any ini file. You will also have the ability of changing your commandline from the serverdoc as well.

To change gametypes we prefer UTVote..Uadmin is nice for it's server messages, but it causes problems with some gametypes like AS. Using UTVote you can preconfigure each gametype with different mutators if wanted and even push your server packages from the UTVote ini. I like it because I only need one mutator in the commandline..UTVote.

I have a small request...

Can you please remove UT2k3style from this server?

You may be wondering: "Isn't SJ the world's biggest advocate of fast weapon switching and boosting?".

Yes, I am.

But, no other servers run UT2k3style and it's not allowed on the ladders. As such, I can't play on the HTM TAM server for very long without it spoling my non-HTM TAM game.

You're of course fully welcome to run whatever you want on your own server. But, if you're ambivalent about it, I would like it to be removed (even though I love it).

I personally like the mutator, and since we are not a competition clan we therefore do not play ladders. I know alot of our members are 2k3 veterans and this allows 2k4 to feel like home. I'm sorry this affects your gameplay in other servers but at this time I do not feel I should remove it. I will however run a poll in our private section and let the clan make the final decision.

I like the mutator too (independent of anything else). I liked 2003 DM more than 2004.

I guess the point I was getting across is that if you guys don't care one way or the other, I would like to see it removed. But, I fully understand you wanting to leave it on.

Personally, it took me a long time to finally take it off of my server.

When I did and was able to finally learn UT without fast weapon switching, I felt so liberated: I could play other servers without getting killed.

I've played him (his other name is SweetTooth) several times and he's ALWAYS an antagonistic jerk who gets his kicks by mocking, belittling and making fun of other people.

He has spoiled every game I've played I've seen him play - I think he likes ruining the fun of other people.

Check the logs (assuming you maintain any) for any game in which he was connected. You will find a stream of filthy and rude comments directed at EVERYONE else. He's an equal opporunity jerk.

I play @ HTM because I want to have fun. He ruins that for me.
