Always remember that your grades can help pull you through as well. It would be good to spend your time and energy working towards good grades and possibly get a scholarship along the way.

Of course mowing lawns and picking up dog poop rocks too!

I bought my first car when I was 15 (1969) entirely from money I made as a Box Boy at a local grocery store (now called the politically correct Courtesy Clerk).

Federal grants were not available to me because my folks were middle-class - which sucks (they'll pay for a non-citizen immigrant, or if your folks are poor, but the middle-class can fend for themselves - makes no sense to me!). So when I got out of high school I joined a band and toured for two years before returning and applying for federal grants and student loans to go to college. Federal grants were then available to me because I was no longer on my parent's tax returns.

Then I continued to play gigs on the weekends and drove taxi a couple nights a week. I'd study in the car between fares while sitting on a cab stand at some hotel or waiting for a "bell" from the dispatcher. Drive, study, drive, study...

The best thing you can do is to study your ass off and have a perfect GPA, as Minion said. (in a nicer way :P) With the costs of college these days, I doubt you'd be able to save enough to make a noticable dent in your college expenses. That doesn't mean you shouldn't save, but I think you should invest a lot more time in studying and raising your GPA.

You have the right idea Moo. Its really important to plan and not just hope that everything works out. Grades can make this much easier and give you many more options for your future.

Spelling is important as well. I can't tell you how many resumes I have thrown out due to poor grammer or misspelled words. If someone can't take the time to write their resume correctly and run spell check. I don't have time for the interview.

This link might help as it covers alot of ground. You might want to take a look, write down what interests you and what questions you have. Then take it to a parent or school counselor for advice.

Good luck Moo. I hope you get a plan and stick with it. :)

Bear in mind, all this talk about "plans" is coming from an insurance salesman... MWAHAHAHAHA

Are they packaging Term College Insurance these days? hehe It would be based on your folk's financial and responsibility indexes. In other words, if it looks good that your parents will have the means and motivation to pay for your college, your premiums would be fairly low. If your folks were alcoholic, pig farmers, your rates would be higher. LOL Then when you reached eighteen the insurance would pay off if there was nothing in your college fund. *

*more silliness from JaK

Naw, doing it thru life insurance is a rip off. Only really helps if your family has a sizable tax burden they want to reduce. Plus he is about 12 yrs older than what you would want him to be to start that option.

Saving, grades, loans and grants is the way to go. :)
